Hockey Consciousness founder Rob Gherson has been involved in hockey for over 35 years. Growing up as a goalie in Toronto, Rob played AAA hockey before moving to Wellington at 16 years old to play for the Wellington Dukes in the OJHL (Then OPJHL.) Rob won rookie of the year and helped his team get to the conference finals. From there, he moved up to the OHL, playing for the Sarnia Sting and Owen Sound Attack. A starting goalie his entire 4 years, Rob was named to the OHL West Division All Star Team in 2002 where he was named co-MVP along with Marc Andre Fleury of the Hershey Cup game against the QMJHL All Stars.

Rob was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 5th round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and played 5 years of professional hockey, in the AHL, ECHL and UHL. He won the Calder Cup Championship in 2008 with the Chicago Wolves.

In 2009 Rob retired from his playing career and began coaching. He has coached 23 different teams over the past 16 years as a head coach, assistant coach, and goaltending coach, across every level of minor hockey from A and school hockey to Junior A in the OJHL. During his time as Director of Goaltending for the OJHL North York Rangers, the team led the league in Save percentage, Goals Against and Shutouts, and 3 different North York Rangers Goalies won OJHL Goalie of the Year.

An expert in goaltending development, Rob has been interviewed in many major media formats about NHL goaltending as well as youth goaltending development.

Hockey Consciousness is Rob’s outlet for sharing his goaltending knowledge with the greater hockey world. Shooters will learn how to read and score more goals, goalies will learn how to keep the puck out of the net more often and parents and coaches will learn how to support their goalies and players in reaching their potential.
